The Glendale Distilling Co. was established in 1987 as a back-end distillery attached to the Glendale Sugar Mill (Mill). The Distillery`s central function was to produce a world class, high quality, cane spirit product for local and international niche markets. The initial capacity was 1.2 Million litres of alcohol per annum. The present-day capacity is now 7 Million litres per annum.

The GLEDHOW FARMERS ASSOCIATION represents all sugar cane growers that deliver sugar cane to the Gledhow sugar mill. The growers have approximately 35 000 hecters under sugar cane in the iLembe district. As the majority of the production is in the iLembe district, the growers are a large employer in the area, as well as contributors to associated services such as transport, engineering and supply companies.
